One of my biggest fears is putting myself out there, getting thrown to the sharks, being in the limelight, etc etc. I would be so much more comfortable in the shade, away from the action; a wallflower. But that usually doesn't get you very far in life.
Growing up, I learned that closing yourself off to opportunities is a guaranteed hazard to your future. Being too scared, too cool, too "idgaf" is the wrong recipe for success. Similar to that movie, I forgot the name, but the one where the guy says yes to everything and goes all out, success takes some vulnerability. You have to be open to getting shot down because if you play it safe, you're going to end up asking "what if?"
I think rejection is one of the suckiest feelings ever. But I think what's worse than that is the feeling that you aren't enough, or that you didn't do your best when you could have done so much more. That, in my opinion, is the pits.
Regret is more painful than rejection because to a self proclaimed independent spirit like me, regret is your fault. You could have done more, everything was in your hands. With rejection, you did the best you could and it wasn't the right time for you, that's completely okay and certainly commendable. When you don't try hard enough and sell yourself short is when you get that awful knot in your stomach that won't go away.
I think that's why I apply myself fully, in whatever it is that I do. You really only live once (unless you believe in reincarnation..) and in my opinion, the greatest achievement you're able to attain is self-actualization, where you know for a fact that you've reached your fullest potential and that you have finally made it.
No middle-income, house-on-the-prairie, mom-van type making it. I'm talking about six-seven figure paycheck, solar paneled-house, futuristic-pool, gas-guzzling beast of a car, my-job-is-a-vacation type making it. If you agree with me, you already know the drive, passion, and commitment it takes. Dream big.
