conceptual photography with a fashion edge

These photos are by a photographer and artist called Madame Peripetie

"Madame Peripetie explores the boundaries between fashion, sculpture and the human body, experimenting with various fabrics and patterns; whilst infusing high-fashion elements with abstract and conceptual ideas, creating an eccentric escapade of color and texture. In her work she is focusing mainly on the interaction between body, language and new media. Her inspirations include surrealism, dadaism as well as the new wave era of the 80s, British post punk scene and the avantgarde theater of Robert Wilson." (via behance.net)

She is located in Germany and is pretty incredible. The purpose of conceptual art is to convey a meaning simply by conceptualization. So when you look at a piece, the art is happening in your mind, rather than right in front of you. Her pieces are really dreamy to me and remind me of Alice in Wonderland+Vogue+Pans Labyrinth. I can definitely agree that she in influenced by surrealism. You feel as though you are in an alternate, fantastical place when you look at her work. Amazing.

a castle in the sky

One of my favorite films, ever. It's such an endearing story, and the artwork is gorgeous, as it is in all of Miyazaki's films. Watch this, or any of his other films if you get the chance. They are such a treat, and they remind you of what it was like to be a kid. As old as they are, the films are refreshing to me now, because of how much I've grown. It's nice to be reminded of the simpler, more innocent things.

and like that, I'm gone

As you can tell, I have a thing for black. These are just a couple of items I saw that caught my eye. The shoes are all faaaaabulous, ugh. I feel as though designers are just getting better and better at their craft, and are now able to come up with shoes that are beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces of portable art. The jewelry is also to die for. I love the crystalized ring. I also adore the killer sheer tights. The last two photographs I found browsing the internet. She's an analogue lover by the name of Eva M González López. Her photos are lovely. With art, (any type of art) a goal an artist should have is to make their audience feel something. She accomplishes this, at least in my opinion. There is a sense of stillness and melancholy, tinged  with adventure and  fairytales in her photographs. Here's her tumblr link below, check her out!

Nail polish binge

If you didn't know this about me, I love nail polish. I swung by American Apparel at the Citadel to peruse the racks for something suitable to wear to EDC Vegas, and I crossed the shelf that contained these matte beauties. From left to right, the names of the AA polishes are Cotton, Poppy, and Office. The one on the far right is Gems, by Milani's Jewel FX's collection. I've been searching for months for it and found it at Walgreen's. Playing around with mattes, sheens, sparkles, and different textures works for a manicure the same way it works for creating an outfit. Anyway, the weather is so nice out! A little windy for my liking, but I'm happy to see the sun. Time to run out and frolic, have a good day!

Baby you summatime fine,

Had a fun-filled day of lazy and nothing with these gorgeous two, so good to be reunited, the chemistry is the same as it's always been (still can't believe I've known them both since 2006). I plan to blog more frequently now that I'm out of school (for now.. summer school starts 6/20), which reminds me.. I got another 4.0 this semester. I really hope I'm going to continue on this beautiful trend, all the work has paid off and I could not be happier. It struck me that I don't remember any of the events I missed out on this year for the duration of the time I was locked indoors studying. But I will forever remember a 4.0, and I think that says it all.

Plans this summer? EDC (my second one!) THIS month. Wow, it's already June. Time flies. I'm also going to go hiking, kayaking, and sight-seeing; my camera has missed me. Aside from time spent with friends, family, my team, and the gym, I also plan to finally begin my volunteer hours at hospitals. I've already sent in my applications, really excited to begin and give back. I thank my lucky stars that I made it through this semester in one piece.

Time to breathe a little and rejoin society since I have been gone for a cool six months. I'm also contemplating getting my second tattoo, the meaning has come to me, I just need to choose a way to represent it.. and also pick a place on my body. But for now, I'm okay with what I have.

Cannot wait for each new day to begin. It's beginning to really feel like summer, and I am as elated as can be.
